Gifting vs tipping

When I first saw the tip jar in the blogs, it raised my eyebrow. I've been blogging for like what, 14-15 years now, and I've never considered it as services rendered. I blog for my enjoyment and if others share in my enjoyment, all the better. So, I never really saw a point in getting tipped, which is why I never activated the tip jar.

Personally, my thought on the tip jar was that it was introduced so horny dudes can tip away their earnings to the live cam models who solicit traffic to their cams through their blogs. Again, that has nothing to do with me since I get trigger happy with the [Hide] button whenever I see a cam girl in the blogs.

From my perspective as a woman on a site of this nature, tipping is for the "professional models" in the live cam section, which is part of the site that I never visit.

Plus, the concept of tipping has become quite toxic in the States. Everybody and their grandmothers expect to get tipped just for breathing.

Now, I've seen grumblings that the site did away with the ability to gift points. As one who has gifted points to buddies before, I see no rhyme or reason to do away with that feature. Especially since that can only be done through the profile.

Getting rid of the tip jars, which could possibly be illegal in the first place, I can get.

But doing away with the ability to gift points? I can't come up with a reasonable argument as to why getting rid of that suits any purpose. I'm sure there are Gold members who like gifting points to help others.

To me, the concept of gifting and tipping are two totally separate issues. Could be a mentality thing, too.

Working in the corporate world and having dealt with my share of managers, good and bad, a common thing that I've found is that higher the position, the more out of touch they become with the average worker/end user/consumer. Sometimes you have to talk to them as if they're 3 years old before they can grasp where you're coming from.

It's kinda like that when working with engineers, too. There's a huge gap between what they think people want/need and what people actually want/need.

Personally, I don't want nor do I need the tip jar.

That goes the same with the top fans tipping. I don't want nor need that, either. I never entered my profile on the dating side in a popularity contest.

However, I do want the ability to gift points.

What say you about gifting vs tipping?
