Pink and blue
Pink and blue
I went to the beach for the first time at the end of June. Since the temps were pretty high for June, I thought the water would be a bit warmer, so I tried to get away with just wearing a thicker rash guard. But no, the deeper I went, the colder it got. I couldn't take it anymore, so I went back to shore to put on my wetsuit (I brought it just in case). Yeah, glad I brought it. The water didn't feel as cold with the wetsuit on.
I was happy to get the chance to try out the action camera underwater. It did take some decent pics and vids. I did get error messages saying that the SD card is too slow or something like that. I used one that I used to use in my phone for extra storage. I guess I need to get a new one. Might as well get one with more storage.
I was happy to see the pretty blue fishies. It was high tide so I was able to swim in some parts of the pile of tetra pods. I saw a small school of stripeys that were a pretty good size. I usually see tiny ones. It seems like pink soft coral thrives in the tetra pods. There were quite a few big ones. The pics with fishies swimming by the pink coral came out pretty nicely.
It was nice swimming around, seeing the pretty fishies, and taking pics and vids with my action camera. I went back to shore, did a bit of reading on Kindle, and took a nap to warm up and dry out a bit. The tide was out when I woke up from my short nap. I decided to go over to the other side of the park. Now, the water was super calm on the side I was and there were hardly any waves. I go around to the other side of the park and the water was choppy. It was too choppy to see anything. I was hoping to see some squid, so I was bummed. But I did see some tiny shrimp and managed to get a vid of one backing up while staring at the camera lens. It was pretty comical to watch.
Speaking of comical, the box puffer fish never ceases to entertain. They're pretty skittish, so they'll swim away when they people. But, sometimes, they'll turn around, stare at you, swim away, turn around to check if you're still there, swim away, and turn back around. It's always so funny when fish face you straight on. Since their eyes are on the side of their heads, you wonder if they can actually see you.
Oh, I saw a little shark. It swam away pretty quickly so I didn't get a good shot. I think it was a baby dogfish. I used to see a bunch of them and little rays in these waters a couple decades ago, but not as much these days.
I ended the day with a nice and big soft serve ice cream. The line at the dairy farm wasn't as long as it usually is. I can tell that it's someone's first time there since they always comment on how big the ice cream is. LOL I always saw a sign for a veggie stand across the street from the dairy farm, but I've never been, so I decided to venture down the hill while enjoying my ice cream. I scored some fresh cucumbers, orange tomatoes, and red-skinned potatoes (I steamed the potatoes, and man, were they good! ) The orange tomatoes were firm and sweet. I'm definitely going there again for fresh veggies.
Got home, took a shower, then a nap. After the nap I made lunch for the week. It was a good weekend. Hope to hit the beach again soon.
