HNW--the 717th . . . Something New

Happy 2025!

This week's theme is Something New. What's new in my photo is that I opened a new bottle of sparkling wine. That works, right? 😂

2024 ended with a great fireworks show. I'm glad I left the house earlier than I usually do. There were many more people at the park than before. I managed to squeeze in between a couple and a dude with a tripod. The Japanese Navy (they call it the Self-Defense Force) parked the ship at another doc, away from the boardwalk, so the midnight horn wasn't eardrum-splitting loud as it usually is. The fireworks was spectacular, as usual. I didn't bother to check out the event that was being held at the other side of the park but went straight home.

I opened a bottle of sparking wine and munched on some snacks (sliced apples and cheese, roast beef, ham, sliced tomatoes, and crackers) while catching up with friends who were still up past midnight. After a couple of glasses of bubbly, I went to bed to get some shut-eye before I had to get up to catch the first sunrise.

Man, was I glad I set the alarm! I was not gonna wake up on my own! I managed to get to the hilltop park that I always go to for watching the first sunrise. There were a few people there already. I staked out my spot, settled down, and waited for the sun to make an appearance.

It's a Japanese custom to go see the first sunrise, since it was believed that the god of good luck (Toshigami) appeared with the first sunrise. Me, I just like watching the sunrise and sunset.

Now, I'm at home, enjoying some mimosas and leftover munchies while yakking over in Hippie's chatroom.
