My thoughts on the new Fan/Followers feature
@Andrew posted an update asking for feedback on the new “Fan/Follow” feature: Week 7 Update: Get Your Feedback on Proposed Interaction Changes!.
I have expressed my opinion on flirts/hotlists as only serving to boost the egos of the like-obsessed population. If they don’t lead to in-person meets, I have no use for them.
Now he wants to replace the friends list with the modified flirts/fans/followers.
I’m not sure about the fans/followers concept since it gives me the impression that it’s something that chases popularity. Especially on AFF, anything and everything to do with popularity have lead to entitlement, harassment, and drama. While these make for a good TV show, it’s not fun experiencing/witnessing them first hand.
Here are my personal thoughts on the new feature:
I know I’m in the minority opinion here, but friends shouldn’t be clumped in together with fans/followers. We are not in a popularity contest, nor do I wish to be tossed into one by the fans/followers concept.
Some of us prefer to keep our friends list only to those we know and have communicated with. I certainly don’t want my friends list filled with a bunch of randos I don’t know, which is precisely what the current flirts/hotlist are.
Incoming friend requests can be cleared by denying them. As far as I know, there is no way to clear flirts/hotlists.
Keep the flirts/hotlists free for standards. Let them pursue the dream and get their egos boosted. They’ll find out soon enough that they’ll need premium membership to get anywhere on this site.
Unless the site introduces membership gift cards Golds can buy with points (without ConfirmID) that can only be gifted to other members or allow us to gift A Touch of Gold without purchases or registered credit card, my points keep accumulating with no specific use for them.
I will never use points for flirting, but I will be more than happy to gift A Touch of Gold with the extra points if the current restrictions are eliminated.
What are your thoughts on the following?
- Do you prefer paid Flirts with optional boosts, or free Flirts with only paid boosts?
- How do you feel about the proposed "Fan/Follow" feature replacing Hotlist?
- What do Gold members think about receiving monthly points to spend?
Please share your feedback! Your input will directly shape the future of FriendFinder.
