Off to the market

A buddy and I went to an antiques market in Tokyo last weekend. Seeing how it was raining like there was no tomorrow until just after sunrise, I was surprised that the market didn't get canceled since it was being held outdoors.

The weather report said it was going to rain over the weekend, so we had a plan B in place--go to a photo exhibit in the morning, then go enjoy afternoon tea at a Chinese restaurant. Although it did rain earlier, the market went ahead as planned, so we decided to go check out the market, then go to afternoon tea since we made reservations.

The market was interesting. There were vendors selling antique toys, jewelry, dishware, glassware, kimonos and such, furniture, and art. Of course, the stalls selling kimonos and obis were popular among the foreign tourists. I picked up an obi that I'm making a hat out of. We spent the morning browsing around the market and it was getting close to the time we made reservations for tea by the time we finished browsing around the stalls.

We went to a Chinese restaurant that offered dim sum in their afternoon tea set, and it was deceptively filling. We had a savory tart, steamed dumplings, spring rolls, cakes, mango pudding, sesame balls, and a nice Taiwanese tea. The food was really good. I wouldn't mind going there again sometime.

My buddy wanted to go check out the photo exhibit that was our plan B since we still had plenty of time. The photographer mainly took photos of scenery, a lot with the night sky. Many of the photos featured the milky way. The interesting thing about this exhibit was that they allowed us to take photos with our phones.

After viewing the exhibit, we went for ice cream before calling it a day.

(over at AFF, I had to put the photos in the comments because of the new policy, but here, I can put the photos in with the post)
