Final end to the cherry blossom season

Cherry blossoms mark the beginning and ending of spring in Japan. Doizakura (土肥桜) is the cherry blossom that blooms the earliest, but there aren't any of those trees nearby where I live. I have seen them before when I visited Izu, where the climate is warmer.

In these parts, Kawazu Sakura blooms around mid-February. The other types of cherry blossoms follow, ending with the Yaezakura (八重桜). The Shidarezakura (枝垂れ桜), a weeping cherry tree, usually blooms just after the Somei Yoshino, but this year, it bloomed at the same time. The petals on the Shidarezakura are light pink, the blossoms smaller and delicate.

The multi-layered Yaezakura cherry blossoms are the last to bloom and the blossoms usually last the longest. The blossoms are dark or light pink and are the largest out of the cherry blossoms that bloom around here. These blooming also marks that spring is coming to an end and that summer will be coming along soon.

    1. It snowed in April back in the late 80s. Bulldozers were clearing the roads since snow plows don't exist in these parts 😂

  4. I’m so envious, it’s so pretty when they’re blooming.

What marks the end of spring here? When the temps in the daytime stay above 80 for weeks at a time.

    We’ve been there since March
