More signs of spring
Somei Yoshino tends to come to mind when talking about cherry blossoms. But, there are quite a few types of cherry blossoms, many blooming earlier than Somei Yoshino.
This is Okamezakura, one of the early blooming kinds.
Their petals are a little smaller and a bit darker pink. The blossoms bloom in little round clusters.
You can see warbling white-eye flittering about sipping nectar from the blossoms.
There's a park just up the hill from where these blossoms were blooming. This park is great to visit when the Somei Yoshino is in bloom. Another type of cherry blossom, the Harumekizakura, otherwise known as the Ashigarazakura, was just starting to bloom. These blossoms are smaller and a light pink. They're quite cute when they're in bloom.
There was another type of cherry blossom called Tamanawazakura, and it was pretty much at the end of its blossoming cycle.
This is another early blooming cherry blossom, Soushunzakura, that has small petals and light pink.
Maybe next weekend, we'll see the white magnolia in bloom. The buds are getting bigger on the trees lining a road near me. There were a couple of trees near the hilltop park that were already blooming.
Absolutely stunning photos ..
